As part of our strategic transformation to a renewable energy and digital infrastructure growth platform, we are developing 1.1 GW of stand-alone battery storage projects across our footprint. The projects, which range from 20 MW to 300 MW across three states, are expected to be developed over the next three to five years utilizing Talen-owned land and legacy fossil generation and transmission infrastructure.
In addition to generating value and advancing Talen's transformation, these projects serve as another tangible expression of our Force for Good ESG strategy, providing new opportunities for employees and communities as fossil plants transition to run on cleaner fuels.
H.A. Wagner Demonstration Project
Our first battery storage project (in partnership with Key Capture Energy) will be located near Baltimore, Maryland, at our H.A. Wagner facility. The project will replace a recently retired coal-fired unit, providing grid stability and resiliency in a lower carbon fashion.
The development at Wagner has clear advantages due to existing injection rights and the ability to expand physically and electrically, something we believe can be replicated as we think about additional opportunities across our fleet.
