Leading the Energy Transition
Our bottom-up approach to ESG, with keen oversight from our Board, ensures employees are empowered to address ESG topics in a manner that is suitable for local conditions while aligning with our corporate ESG strategy.

Commitments & Performance
We intend to go faster and further in our ESG and decarbonization commitments.

75% REDUCTION IN CO2
We have set an aggressive target to reduce CO2 emissions 75% by 2030, with a baseline year of 2010.

ZERO COAL
We intend to eliminate the use of coal in our wholly-owned generation facilities, which represents approximately 5 GW of capacity.

2.4 GW RENEWABLE & STORAGE
Our renewable and battery storage efforts enable us to pursue growth opportunities and capitalize on our existing footprint.

430 MW COAL CAPACITY RETIRED
In 2020 alone, Talen retired a total of 430 MW of coal capacity, contributing to improvements in both absolute emissions and carbon intensity.

57% CO2 REDUCTION
Through strategic decisions to retire coal units and conversion to cleaner fuels, from 2018 to 2020, Talen’s CO2 emissions decreased by 57%.

0.34 OSHA INCIDENT RATE
In 2020, we achieved our lowest safety performance in over six years with an OSHA Total Recordable Incident Rate (“TRIR”) of 0.34
Social Efforts
Being a Force for Good means converting, not shutting down, our coal plants to ensure that Talen workers and the communities we serve continue to thrive as we lead the energy transition.
It also means doing no harm, and we have materially improved our safety performance over the past six years, proven by our OSHA Incident Rate of 0.34, well below the Dupont Industry Top Performer Benchmark of 1.0.

Our People
We have an inclusive, diverse, and respectful workplace.
Talen focuses community engagement and philanthropic efforts on the local communities where our employees live and work. We believe that a decentralized approach to engagement and giving allows us to more effectively identify areas of need and have a greater local impact. Employees are empowered to facilitate community initiatives and giving and to actively contribute time and resources to local organizations.
We supported COVID-19 relief efforts by donating supplies, providing funds to local food banks, and facilitating hospital morale events in our local communities. It's one of the reasons we were recently named as one of America's Best Midsize Employers by Forbes for the third year in a row.
