Alex Hernandez was appointed President of Talen and member of the Company’s Board of Directors in August 2019, in addition to his ongoing responsibilities as Chief Financial Officer, which he assumed December 2016 concurrently with the Company’s acquisition.
In his capacity as President, Mr. Hernandez oversees the Company’s wholesale commercial operations and drives strategy, corporate development, and capital allocation. He also provides oversight of the Company’s financial planning, accounting, risk management, and balance sheet activities. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Hernandez was a Senior Advisor at an affiliate of Riverstone Holdings, LLC, focused on the power sector and acquisition of Talen Corp.
Prior to joining Riverstone, Mr. Hernandez served as Chief Financial Officer of TerraForm Power, Inc. (NASDAQ: TERP, $10 billion Enterprise Value), a contracted renewable power infrastructure company. He was instrumental in the creation of TerraForm Power and the Company’s IPO, and in driving its growth and ultimate sale to Brookfield Infrastructure. Before joining TerraForm Power, Mr. Hernandez was a Managing Director in the Investment Banking Division of Goldman Sachs. His primary focus was covering North American companies in the merchant power, regulated utility, industrials, technology and renewable energy sectors, where he provided strategic and capital markets advice to management teams and boards of directors.
Mr. Hernandez serves as an Advisory Board member of BlueVoyant, an enterprise cybersecurity technology company backed by the Pritzker Organization. He also serves as a Roundtable member of the James A. Baker, III Institute for Public Policy at Rice University, Houston.
Mr. Hernandez received a B.A. in Economics from Rice University (cum laude), B.S.C. London School of Economics (general course), and an MBA from Columbia University, New York.
